Empowering Tribal Youth through Skill Development: A Successful Journey of the Shrimad Rajchandra Skill Development Centre Facilitated by GJSCI

The Skill Development Centre established at Dharampur, Valsad, has emerged as a beacon of empowerment for tribal youth in southern Gujarat. Launched in September 2022, this centre is a joint initiative of the Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI) and the Shrimad Rajchandraji Skill Development Centre, aimed at creating sustainable livelihoods through industry-aligned skill training.

Over the past 3 years, the Dharampur Skill Centre has transformed the lives of number tribal youth by providing them with specialized training in gem and jewellery sector under the demanding and Futuristic Qualification / Job role of Jewellery CAD Designer. The initiative focuses on equipping local youth with hands-on technical skills, workplace discipline, and entrepreneurial capabilities, ensuring they are industry-ready and self-reliant.

The Skill Centre has been established up through a generous CSR contribution from leading jewellery Companies, predominantly based out of SEEPZ Mumbai. The centre’s programs have been meticulously designed in alignment with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) and are delivered through certified trainers using state-of-training training infrastructure. The trainees have been successfully placed in reputed jewellery manufacturing units across Gujarat and Maharashtra, while several others have initiated micro-enterprises in their local communities.

The initiative is deeply aligned with our SRSDC mission of uplifting tribal youth through education, skill-building, and values-based empowerment. They are proud to witness these young artisans contribute to India’s growing gem and jewellery sector.”

Since its inauguration, the centre has successfully executed 8 batches comprising of 170 candidates, with a remarkable placement rate of over 65 %, showcasing the impact of community-driven, industry-supported skilling models.

The Dharampur Skill Centre stands as a model of how public-private partnerships, industry collaboration, and grassroots engagement can together create pathways for sustainable livelihoods, women’s empowerment, and rural transformation. GJSCI is committed to continue this effort in Dharampur in future as well.
