India’s Gem & Jewellery Exports Rise 2.44% to US$ 9.17 Billion in April–July 2026, Led by 21% Surge in Studded Gold Jewellery

14-08-2026   11:35 AM

India's gross gem and jewellery exports for the April–July 2026 period stood at US$ 9.17 billion (Rs. 87,078.01 crore), registering 2.44% growth in US Dollar terms and 13.58% growth in Rupee terms over the corresponding period last year.

The growth has been led by value-added segments. Studded gold jewellery exports rose 21.09% to US$ 2.24 billion, silver jewellery surged 72.19% to US$ 508.18 million, platinum jewellery grew 17.20% to US$ 77.82 million, and polished lab-grown diamond exports increased 7.47% to US$ 408.50 million during the four-month period.

For July 2026, gross exports were largely stable at US$ 2.35 billion (Rs. 22,511.64 crore), compared with US$ 2.34 billion (Rs. 20,157.76 crore) in July 2025 — a marginal increase of 0.38% in US Dollar terms and 11.68% in Rupee terms. Performance during the month was carried by gold jewellery exports, which 8.73%, with studded gold jewellery up 21.36% on demand from the UAE, Hong Kong, Singapore and the UK.

Gold prices continued to ease during the month, declining a further 3.88% from US$ 4,238.32 per troy ounce in June 2026 to US$ 4,073.92 per troy ounce in July 2026. This follows the 10.28% month-on-month correction recorded in June, marking a second consecutive month of softening prices.

Kirit Bhansali, Chairman, GJEPC, said, “Despite a challenging global environment, India’s gem and jewellery exports have shown encouraging resilience, with value-added segments such as studded gold jewellery, silver and platinum jewellery leading the way. The easing of gold prices is also expected to support demand in key consuming markets. Looking ahead, we remain optimistic. IIJS Bharat Premiere 2026 was a resounding success, attracting over 61,000 visitors, including more than 5,000 international visitors from 80 countries. The business generated at the show is expected to translate into shipments in the coming months, and we are confident this will contribute positively to India’s export performance ahead.”

Commenting on the recently introduced Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill 2026, Shri Kirit Bhansali further said, " This is a defining moment for India’s diamond industry. India is already the world’s leading centre for cutting and polishing diamonds, yet we have been entirely dependent on imports for rough diamonds. By providing a 15-year income tax exemption to foreign companies trading rough diamonds through our Special Notified Zones, this new law removes a long-standing structural barrier. It positions India to evolve from a processing powerhouse into a global diamond trading hub.”
