GIA to host technology seminar in Bangkok on July 25
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) will host a seminar gear new technologies in the jewellery industry on July 25 in Bangkok.
Jasmin Karger, a trained goldsmith and design instructor at GIA in London since 2007, will facilitate the seminar, which will be held as part of GIA’s Gemstone Gathering in Bangkok’s Crowne Plaza Hotel. Karger has received three awards from The Goldsmiths' Company for her unusual and inspiring designs, as well as her application of computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology.
While traditional skills in jewellery design and manufacturing remain in demand, modern technology is making an impact in some sectors of the market where faster methods are required, according to GIA. The presentation will compare and contrast traditional design and manufacturing techniques with new tools such as CAD/CAM.
The seminar, which takes place at 6pm on July 25, is free and open to the public.
